Ville-Veikko Uhlgren is a doctoral researcher focusing on gamified and immersive tools for environmental data collection. He develops AR, VR, and mobile applications using game engines such as Unity, integrating LiDAR and other 3D scanning technologies to create interactive digital twin environments that enhance user engagement and support real-world ecological monitoring. Ville holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (2019) from the University of Applied Sciences XAMK and a Master’s degree in Computer Science (2024) from Tampere University. He has professional experience in game development and 3D content creation. His research combines software and game design expertise with playful, gamified approaches to crowdsourced data collection, visualization, and user-centered interaction, aiming to bridge the gap between scientific monitoring and engaging, interactive technologies. Outside of research, he enjoys exploring nature—sometimes imagining it as the perfect place to bring all his D&D dice.
