PELIT: Playful Engagement and Learning through Interactive Technology

Playful Engagement and Learning through Interactive Technology (PELIT) is a research area exploring how playful interactive technologies can promote learning and engagement for social and environmental good. Topics of interest include games and gamification for different areas of sustainability, game-based learning, and data for good.

We study, create, and evaluate gamification applied to the following topics:

  • Bias mitigation in financial decision-making (Ans Ahmad)
  • Climate adaptation and resilience (Carlos Álvarez Barroso)
  • COTS games in problem-solving (Shermain Puah)
  • Data visualization for decision-making (Arka Majhi)
  • Metacognition for learning (Annique Smith)
  • Public understanding of science (Prajwal D’Souza)
  • Sustainability transitions and climate change engagement (Daniel Fernández Galeote)

The doctoral researchers in this area are supervised by Dr. Daniel Fernández Galeote and Prof. Juho Hamari, and some of them by senior scholars such as Prof. Nannan Xi, Dr. Wilk Oliveira, and Dr. Nikoletta-Zampeta Legaki as well.
