Dion Deng is a doctoral researcher in the Gamification Group, Tampere University. His current research is mainly focused on avatars in social virtual reality (VR). With a B.A. in journalism (2020, Hong Kong Baptist University) and an MPhil in communication (2022, Hong Kong Baptist University), he has a rich background in communication research and is familiar with multiple research methods including but not limited to experimental and big data text mining. Before his PhD in Tampere, his previous research outputs were presented to several top communication study conferences (ie. ICA, AEJMC). He also had work experience as a user researcher in the Chinese biggest gaming company, Tencent in 2021.
