T2 Design of future relevant and feasible ubiquitous scenarios: applications for context awareness in entertainment

Anxo Roibás, Urpo Tuomela, Katja Kytökorpi
University of Brighton, UK / Nokia Corporation

This tutorial presents an overview of feasible scenarios where mobile, i-TV and web interfaces intersect in the space of communication between users, as well as illustrates how well designed integrated interfaces system between technologies may compliment mobile lifestyles.  Although the technology is converging to make ubiquitous communication possible, HCI innovation in this area should arise in order to make an impact in its popularity and wide spread usage.

The tutorial will focus in the scenarios for the future mobile media & content, prospecting a state of the art for the year 2020. Nowadays most of the scenarios that companies create are technology driven, and the challenge is be to create scenarios which are end-user-driven. These scenarios shouldn't consider what users can do with the new technological possibilities, but they need to identify future needs, and find out how they can be served with the help of some new technologies and devices. The presenters will provide of course some technical considerations and give both facts and predictions of technical and socio-cultural development till year 2020. Crucial issues that will be considered will be: multi-platform interaction (ubiquity), context  awareness, privacy, new forms of digital content.
