Student Volunteers

has been made and accepted Student Volunteers have been notified.
Being a student volunteer is a great way for young researchers to establish
a network. We are looking for a group of enthusiastic, independent, hard-working,
and reliable people who want to help us run a smooth and enjoyable conference
in a collaborative spirit. Good student volunteers are an important and
integral part of any conference; they are key to delivering a successful
conference through their work and engagement.
Accepted volunteers are expected to work in scheduled sessions during the conference, but will also be given great opportunities to attend the program and socialize. We expect every volunteer to commit to a total of 20 volunteer hours of work at the conference. We request that some students arrive the day before the conference begins and stay a few hours after the conference ends. Any hours worked during these periods will count towards the 20-hour total.
What is involved in being a Student Volunteer?
Student volunteers support the various programs and
events hosted at the conference. Student Volunteers may serve in several
support roles at the conference. The 20 hours of volunteer work will be
distributed across a wide variety of tasks, e.g. helping out at workshops
and tutorials, working as aids during the panels and paper sessions, lending
a hand during the interactive presentations, help with preparation and
set-up of equipment as required, thus assisting in the different aspects
of the running of the conference. No special skills or experience are
necessary for most volunteer positions. Student volunteers are responsible
for their own housing, most meals and travel to and from Tampere.
What are the benefits of being a student volunteer?
In return for their help at the conference, student volunteers will receive a number of benefits, including free conference registration, conference proceedings, some meals, get together -party, Tampere city reception, a Conference Dinner ticket and a student volunteer T-shirt. There will also be an After Party for volunteers.
In addition to participating in the conference sessions,
student volunteers get the opportunity to exchange ideas with students
with similar interests from all over the world, and a chance to network
with professionals in a relaxed environment during the conference's social
events. Student volunteers might have a chance to attend one tutorial
or workshop during their spare time, assuming they are not fully booked.
What qualifications do I need?
Volunteers must be undergraduate, master's, or doctoral students during the 2004-2005 academic year. All students, regardless of discipline, are encouraged to apply. No experience is required but appreciated. A valid, dated student identification card or a letter from your university or school must be presented when registering at the conference. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age during the conference.
