Maintaining Consistency in XML-based Configurations: A Pattern-driven Approach

José Héctor Zárate Rodríguez1, Imed Hammouda2
Abstract

The use of software artefacts of different types during software development can give rise to inconsistencies between related artefacts. This paper discusses the problem of inconsistency between XML configurations and other system artefacts. A pattern-based approach and tool have been developed to mitigate the risks of artefact inconsistency. The tool has been applied to an industrial framework taken from Sasken Ltd. First experiences show that the tool brought potential benefits to developers by guiding them in the process of editing the configuration of the framework while maintaining the consistency between various framework artefacts.
