Strength, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats

The solutions are digital frescoes, renovated website and introduction of sign language on website and in the cathedral area.

Introducing “Digital frescoes” are going to be a very interesting project where the visitors will be eager to experience something new. They can easily know about the facts behind the frescoes. Local community will be encouraged to think of the cathedral complex more than a religious place because of the digital museum-like approach. Children will be interested to use the touch screen frescoes and ask various questions about them. This non-traditional experience will also be available on the cathedral website, but for the deaf community. As the renovation of the website is also on the list, the visitors will find a different website which they can listen to and an interactive chatbot. As they can ask questions visa voice messages and the chatbot will be confirming queries before giving information, they will be interested about knowing the answers to relevant questions too. The introduction of sign language will help to include the deaf community and make the cathedral complex accessible for them. This can help to raise a different group of new visitors who might be interested in working with the authority as a volunteer or make proper use of cathedral facilities to improve their lives.

The major weakness of the plan is the time of implementation. Transforming the whole website into a particular sign language might take less time. But sorting this out in multiple sign languages is going to be time consuming. Digital frescoes are going to be costly and will take time to create digital interactive animations. Interpreting them sign languages will also take time. Other than these, no major weak points are seen yet.

Opportunities can be identified when the objective is to introduce audio guide on the website. It will take less time than the solutions discussed above. It also will help to draw attention of the users who will be interested in visiting the cathedral complex sooner or later other than the religious purpose. To create a sustainable cultural flow, the cathedral authority has the biggest opportunity to introduce sign language both on the spot and virtual website. This will create new hope for new consumers of the culture.

Threats can be identified as risks here. From my perspective, policymaking is going to be the first risk as there is a possibility to define the number of sign language being used on website translation and digital frescoes translation. Having the acceptance of these implementations of ideas are going to be uncertain as the cathedral complex has always been conventional and classic. Therefore, the community has a possibility to feel alienated from the common surrounding. The services might be available in English translations on website, but the major focus will always be the local community.
