What

Regular volleyball session for Tampere Universities community on Monday nights from 6 to 8 pm (except in June & July) at TAMK Sports Center, Tekunkatu 5.

For Whom

Both staff/faculty and students are welcome, but we expect a certain skill level. These sessions are not meant for those who are only starting to learn the basics of volleyball. Many of our players have several years of playing experience in different junior and/or adult leagues, and ideally all players joining the group have at some staged played volleyball competitively. Here are some of our expectations:
  • You know most of the rules of volleyball.
  • Most of your serves should end up in the opponent's side of the court.
  • You are able to pass serves to the setter.
  • You are consistently able to execute both forearm and overhead passing, being able deliver the ball where you want it.
  • You are able to consistently deliver the ball to the opponent's side of the court either by spiking or with forearm / overhead passing.
  • You are able to block (provided that you are tall enough).
In addition to the above, it is very important that you know where to position yourself on the court both when the team is attacking and especially when it is defending. Not knowing your place on the court makes team play not only difficult but sometimes even dangerous. Please do not ask to join the group if you do not know your place on the court at all times.

Session

Each session proceeds roughly along the following outline:

  • 6.00 - 6.10 warming up with a ball (alone or with someone else)
  • 6.10 - 6.15 attack warmup
  • 6.15 - 6.20 serving / passing warmup
  • 6.20 - 8.00 actual gameplay
There is a brief break between each set, and a couple of minutes longer break around 7 pm.

Please note that the gym clock is frequently fast, so it is a good idea to arrive no later than 5.55 pm.
