WITCHCRAFT, MAGIC AND WITCH TRIALS IN FINLAND

These pages offer information about witchcraft, magic and witch trials in Finland. The material is based on the studies of Mr. Timo Kervinen, a lawyer and criminologist, and Mr. Marko Nenonen, PhD, and Docent in Finnish History (The University of Tampere). Other scholars have been credited as well, since the study of witch trials began soon after their final phase in the 18th century, and we could not have reached our aims without these fellow explorers of earlier times.

The most important findings and some basic conclusions have been published in Finnish in a book with popular appeal, "Synnin palkka on kuolema" (The Wage of Sin is Death), as well as in several articles. Some articles in English and German are also available.

In the event that any material found within this site would be relevant to your own documentation, we expect that in referring to our web pages, the source will be mentioned.
