I received my Ph.D in organic chemistry from Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IITb) where I was involved in developing novel reaction methodologies for Asymmetric reactions and also developed polycarbocyclic compounds (cage compounds) as high-density energy materials and as organocatalysts. After my Ph.D., I did my first Post Doc at Indian Institute of Science-Bangalore where I was involved in designing novel ruthenium complexes for anticancer applications. Thereafter, I moved to Uppsala University, Sweden, as a PostDoc where I embarked upon the new field of biomaterials research for tissue engineering applications. This opportunity was unique from my basic training in organic chemistry and allowed me to learn several biotechnology techniques and develop novel hydrogels for bone regeneration. Using my background in organic synthesis, I have tailored novel materials for bone tissue engineering and developed new bioconjugation strategies. Pursuing my passion for anticancer studies, I initiated an independent line of research and designed novel drug delivery systems. I am grateful to all my mentors and collaborators from diverse background who inspired me to pursue a multi-disciplinary research. The Laboratory of Bioengineering and Nanomedicine, at the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences and Engineering is founded upon cutting-edge multi-disciplinary research in the areas of biomaterials, tissue engineering, drug delivery, nanomedicine, cell-based therapy and immunoengineering.
