Course requirements and grading
Requirements:
Weekly homework assignments. Homework will normally be assigned each Monday after the lectures, and due the following Wednesday by 23:00 by email (petros.karamanakos (at) tuni.fi). Late homework will not be accepted. Teamwork in small groups is allowed, even encouraged, but you must hand in your own homework solution. You are welcome, even encouraged, to use LaTeX to write your homework reports (handwritten homework is also accepted). Homework will be graded on a scale of 0-10.
Final exam. It is a three-hour exam. Any printed material and a calculator are allowed. It is scheduled for the following dates: 13/12/2023 (17:00-20:00, SJ204), 15/02/2024, 05/04/2024.
Grading: Homework 20% (only the best four will count; the
remaining four exercises will give a bonus of up to 10%), final
exam 80%. The exam questions will give in total 50 points, but the
grading will be done on a basis of 40 points max (i.e., 10 points
are given as a bonus). There should be a minimum of score 50% in
the final exam (i.e., 20 points out of 40) for the homework to be
counted in your final grade.
The above weights are approximate as they might be subject to
changes; I reserve the right to adjust them later.
